100% Newfoundland Owned & Operated.

Who we are

Our company is a 100% Newfoundland Owned & Operated Equipment Rental company, located in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. We are proudly 100% family-owned and operated, with no outside influence from major corporations.

What is an “Equipment Rental Company”?

Most of us have been lucky enough to travel outside of the province on vacation, and we usually require a vehicle to get around when we reach our destination – that’s when we go looking for a car rental company! They provide us with a vehicle to get where we need to go.

Think of us like the car rental company, but instead of cars, we rent equipment needed by contractors on jobsites, and homeowners completing renovations.

Think of equipment like: Generators, scaffolding, power tools, forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, office trailers, portable washrooms, submersible pumps – just to name a few. View our full list of products here.

Many every-day people have no idea companies like ours exist, until they need a pricey piece of equipment for their project. Imagine needing a mini excavator for digging on your property. Purchasing an expensive piece of equipment for one job is out of the question. That’s where we come in. We play a vital role in helping contractors and homeowners alike get their tasks completed within their budget.

What else does your company do?

We also do sales and service! Our location at 1281 Topsail Rd is busy year-round, with people stopping by to purchase our wide-range of products, like: spray paint, asphalt cold patch, spray foam insulation, diamond blades, abrasive blades, rags, wedge anchors, concrete screws, gloves, insulated tarps, road salt and many other commodities and consumables needed on construction sites and in the community. We supply you with products needed to get your job done.

We also have a number of services available. We repair and maintain all of the equipment in our rental fleet, which give us the knowledge and experience to offer maintenance and service for our customer’s equipment. Our mechanic shop is located in the building just behind our main building on Topsail Rd. Stop in with broken down equipment and our team will give you a quote on how much it will cost to repair. Visit our website to find out the other services we offer.

32 Years in Business

Our Company has grown tremendously and diversified into different markets since starting all the way back in 1995. Many of the products mentioned above were not rented or sold by us back then, and many weren’t even on the market at that time.

S & S Supply/Crosstown Rentals was founded in 1995, by local-legend Brad Smith. Brad first started the company out of his garage. With hard work and dedication he moved the business into a Topsail Rd strip mall, and was mostly focused on renting small tools and office trailers on the Hibernia job sites.

As the company continued to grow, it was obvious that Brad and his team needed additional space. That’s when he purchased the property bordering Mount Pearl and Paradise and erected a building more suitable for the company’s needs. The colorful building stands out – the colors represent the other company he started, called CTR, which had a Red, Blue and Yellow logo.

Brad sadly passed away in 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He continues to give back to the community each year, by contributing money and donations to: The Canadian Cancer Society, The Community Food Sharing Association, The Alzheimer’s Society, and The Children’s Wish Foundation. If you watched the local evening news hour back in the day, then you probably remember him donating turkeys during Christmas time each year.

Brad was a community-oriented person and made the lives of everyone around him better. After he passed, the company was handed down to family. The company continues to thrive under the leadership of Brad’s family today. The tradition of giving back to the local community also continues on in his memory – we were very pleased to donate over 300 turkeys during Christmas time last year, and look forward to doing the same this year.
